About Fieldmark
We were built to fix the part of consulting that doesn't work.
Fieldmark Consulting is a management and operations advisory practice based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, working with owner-led businesses across Metro Vancouver and remotely across Canada.
Why we exist
The report was never the problem.
Ask any owner who has hired a consultant before and you will hear a version of the same story. Smart people arrived, asked good questions, produced a thorough document, invoiced in advance, and left. Twelve months later the business runs exactly as it did — because nobody converted the findings into a working operation, and nobody was accountable once the cheque cleared.
Fieldmark was set up around a straightforward correction to that model. We do not get paid for advice. We get paid for delivered, approved work. The engagement is broken into milestones with written outcomes, and an invoice is issued only once a milestone has been completed, revised as reasonably needed, and signed off by you.
That single change alters everything upstream of it. It forces scope to be honest, because vague scope cannot be approved. It forces us to turn down engagements where we are not the right fit, because there is no deposit to collect. And it puts the risk of doing the work properly where it belongs — on us.
The name comes from field identification. A fieldmark is the one distinguishing detail that separates two things that otherwise look identical. Two businesses can look the same on paper and perform completely differently. Our work is finding the detail that explains the gap, and then closing it.
Principles
Four things we hold to, including when it costs us the engagement.
01
Say the difficult thing early
If the real problem is a person, a pricing decision or the owner's own habit, we say so in the first week rather than the last. Softening a diagnosis to keep a client comfortable wastes their money and our time. You are paying for an outside view — a polite one is worthless.
02
Evidence before opinion
Every recommendation traces back to something observed in your business: a number, a bottleneck, a process we watched fail. We do not import conclusions from another client's situation, and we show the reasoning so you can challenge it rather than take it on trust.
03
Build what the team can actually run
A perfect system nobody uses is a failure. We design around the people, the skill level and the time your business genuinely has, not around a best-practice model that assumes staff and software you do not have. Simple and used beats sophisticated and abandoned.
04
Leave properly
Processes documented, models explained, team trained, files handed over. We are not interested in becoming a permanent line item on your P&L. The measure of a good engagement is that you do not need a second one for the same problem.
How an engagement runs
Four stages. Nothing invoiced until you approve it.
Consult
A real conversation at no cost about what is actually going wrong. We establish whether there is a problem worth solving and whether we are the right people for it. If we are not, we say so and the conversation ends there.
Scope
Deliverables, milestones, timelines, fees and revision terms are set out in writing before any work starts. You know exactly what each milestone contains and what it costs before you agree to it.
Deliver
We work the milestone, present it, and revise it as reasonably needed to reach the agreed outcome. Revisions are part of the milestone, not a separate charge. Only once you approve does an invoice go out.
Hand over
Documentation, training and a clear handover so your team can run what we built. Where useful we agree a check-in point down the road to confirm it held under real conditions.
The standard
If we haven't delivered something you've seen, reviewed and approved, we haven't earned anything.

Next step
The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Bring the problem as you currently understand it. Working out what it actually is happens to be the job.
